The world is full of rich people who are willing to splash out large amounts of money on expensive food items. Below I have a list of five of the most expensive food items in the world. Most of the food items in the list below are out of the reach for most people unless you are super rich.

White truffle – This is the most expensive mushroom in the world. The reason these mushrooms are so expensive is that they are difficult to find and cultivate. They are also the tastiest of the truffles varieties.

Almas Caviar – You have probably seen black caviar before, but this caviar is a white colour and is the most rare and expensive caviar. The caviar originates from Iran and is classed as ‘luxury caviar’ with prices ranging from $5,000 per kilo.

Saffron – Saffron is the priciest spice in the world. The huge price comes from the lengthy harvesting process where one flower exacts a tiny amount of saffron. This makes the process of harvesting very labour intensive. It has been said that saffron is worth more that it weight in gold.

Matsutake Mushrooms – This mushroom is expensive because of the rarity. The mushroom can only be found on certain types of trees. There is also no way of cultivating the mushroom which makes them so rare.

Kobe beef – This is a Japanese steak and is the most expensive meat in the world because of its flavour and tenderness of the meat. The wagyu cattle are also expensive from there special diet and daily massages.
