Yes, it is that time of year again. The famous Mardi Gras season is soon to begin and this year Fat Tuesday falls on February 16, 2010. Get ready to throw a magnificent king cake party. King cakes of all varieties, sizes, and fillings are soon to be sold in markets and bakeries. Local bakeries and makets sell about 4000-5000 king cakes a day during Mardi Gras season and some are even shipped worldwide. The Mardi Gras fun begins with the famous parades that roll throughout the city. This year the Bacchus parade will roll down St. Charles Avenue February 14. What a Valentines celebration as also the Saints quarterback Drew Brees will reign as Bacchus this year. January 6, 2010 marks the Feast of Epiphany and the start of Mardi Gras season.

Tips for enjoying Mardi Gras in New Orleans and surrounding areas are: plan ahead, make reservations, plan your transportation, beware of parking tickets, arrive early and don’t be late, respect the police as they have a tough job to do, don’t behave irresponsible, watch your weather forecast, do not run into the street to pick up beads or other throws., plan your meals, be careful in using your ladder, and bring your whole family to enjoy this unique Louisiana Mardi Gras spirit.
