For this recipe you will need the following ingredients:
1 18 oz. container of oatmeal
1 tbsp of melted or room temperature butter
2 tbsp honey
1 to 1 1/2 cups of nonsweetened applesauce
1-2 ounces of crushed nuts (optional)
1/2 cups of choc. chips or raisins (optional)
First, take an 18 ounce container of toasted oatmeal and add to a bowl.
Next, you will need to add the applesauce, honey, egg, and butter to the bowl. Mix these together as well as you can with a spoon.
Now, add your crushed nuts and anything else you would like to add such as raisins or chocolate chips. If you add raisins and nuts, you may want to add some cinnamon as well.
At this point you will need to make sure your hands are clean, as you will need to start kneading the mixture with your hands.
Once mixture is mixed well and has the moisture evenly distributed all the way through, it is time to butter 1 to 2 casserole dishes, depending on the size(s) you have available.
Butter your dishes to prevent the granola bars from sticking, and use your hands to squish granola mixture into the pan about an inch thick.
Now, cook your home made granola bars at about 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes. Keep checking to make sure it doesn’t burn.
When the bars are very slightly browned around the edges they are ready to come out.
These bars are taste best when they are fully cooled down. Refrigerate leftoever bars. These are great for breakfast. Enjoy!
