Do you have an Ipod or any other mp3 player? Do you want to discover new music? Are you sick of paying 99 cents for a song that is crippled by Digital Rights Management? Want to support independent artists?

Well, luckily for you, there ARE resources out there for free, legal, music downloads. There are a couple ways of obtaining free music from the internet through various different sites. Some of them involve verifying a credit card for a free trial, but others simply require some kind of e-mail registration. Others don’t require registration at all, and are publicly available as text links on web pages.

The first example is eMusic. eMusic.com offers a free trial where you can sign up and receive 25 free songs. The music selection isn’t that great, but it is a good way to obtain some free music with no cost to you.

However, you may not be interested in giving up your credit card information. Another good site that doesn’t require a credit card or registration is mp3-center.org. The great thing about this site is that the links are right there on the page and don’t require you to click on ads or redirect to several different pages. This site is great for discovering music from independent or obscure artists.

Another great site is Amie Street at amiestreet.com. The cool thing about this site is you get “Street Cred” for recommending artists or songs. If you find a song you like, recommend it and it receives a lot of downloads, you actually earn money back! Most songs start out free, and they increase in price the more people download them. The start is kind of limited as far as music goes, but there is a lot of potential for discovering new artists on there. This is a great way to add new free music to your mp3 collection.

Last, but not least, if you head on over to Zimbio’s site with Free Ipod Music at http://www.zimbio.com/Free+iPod+Music, you have access to tons of websites that are dedicated to finding free music downloads for your Ipod or mp3 player.

If you are interested, there are also sites that let you access large archives full of free mp3 music through the BitTorrent protocol. Some of these sites include SXWX, btsites, and goingware.
