Crispy Turon Recipe (Fried Bananas)

Deep fried bananas (also called turon) is a very popular dessert and snack in the Philippines.  This Filipino snack is made of sweet plantaine banana (also called saba).  The banana is sprinkled with brown sugar and covered with lumpia or spring roll wrapper and then deep fried.

Ingredients for the Turon:

  • Soft and ripe plantaine bananas or saba bananas
  • Brown sugar
  • Spring roll wrapper

Method to Make The Turon:

  1. Slice the plantaine banana into half horizontally.
  2. Place the banana on top of a lumpia wrapper or spring roll wrapper.
  3. Sprinkle the top of the banana with brown sugar.
  4. Wrap the banana in the same way you’re wrapping a spring roll.
  5. Repeat for the rest of the bananas.
  6. Fry the wrapped bananas in hot oil.  The wrapper will become golden brown and crispy, and the banana inside is soft and sweet.
  7. Serve hot.
  8. Enjoy!

Optional: Put a few slices of jackfruit (can be bought in cans) to make the turon even sweeter and more succulent.
