You will need: One unbaked 9″ pie shell (come on… no cheating… you have to make it yourself) 😉
Apple Pie Filling:
5-6 apples, peeled and cut in 3/4″ cubes
Juice of one lemon
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup soft butter
* Set oven to 450 degrees.
*Toss together the apple slices, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice and flour and then arrange in an unbaked pie shell. Combine the crumble ingredients together and work it with your fingers until you have small “nuggets”. Sprinkle the crumble nuggets on top of the apples.
*Take the prepared but unbaked pie into a brown paper bag and staple it shut. Place on a cookie sheet and put into a 450 degree oven and bake for about an hour.
*Be extremely careful when you remove the bag from the oven. It will need to be carefully opened so that the steam can escape.

“I know the look of an apple that is roasting and sizzling on the hearth on a winter’s evening, and I know the comfort that comes of eating it hot, along with some sugar and a drench of cream… I know how the nuts taken in conjunction with winter apples, cider, and doughnuts, make old people’s tales and old jokes sound fresh and crisp and enchanting.”
