Superfoods are basically foods that contain extra health benefits to the body. This is normally in the form of higher amount of nutrients such as antioxidants, vitamins etc. Not all foods items can be classed as superfoods. Below is a list of five common superfoods which can all be found at your local food market.

1. Nuts and seeds – Walnuts and almonds in particularly are good source of fibre and protein. They also contain several mineral which include magnesium, vitamin and potassium. If you buy any kinds of nuts in the shop, be sure to stick to the unsalted versions as these contain the maximum amount of mineral and vitamins.

2. Apples – Everyone has heard of the proverb “an apple a day can keep the doctor away.” Apples contain antioxidants such as vitamin C which are essential for healthy skins. There is also pectin in apples, a fibre that reduces the levels of cholesterol in the blood by 10% in three weeks. Apparently French researcher found that smelling apples was enough to slight bring down people’s blood pressure.

3.Salmon – Salmon is packed with tonnes of omega 3 fatty acids which have shown to reduce blood clots and inflammation. Omega 3 is an essential fat that is good for the heart and been know to accelerated learning with children by increasing the attention span. Other oily fish include: Tuna, kippers, mackerel and sardines.

4. Tea – Green tea contains powerful antioxidant called catechin. Catechin protects cells from damage against heart disease blood clots. One cup of day should be enough for some protection.

5. Garlic – You may know that vampires hate garlic. This may be because garlic contains anti-fungal properties that can kill bacteria. Garlic is excellent for the immune systems as it can help the growth of cancel killing cells.
