I went to a summer picnic years ago and had a yummy salad that had fresh fruit, toasted nuts, bacon, and hard-boiled egg in it. It was SO good and refreshing and hearty! I looked at what all was in it. I want to share this with you ehow users in case you are looking for a similar green salad for your next summer picnic or outing. At the time, I saw the lady pour Henry’s Tastee Original Salad Dressing on it, but I don’t think you can find it anymore, so I just use a sweet fruity salad dressing…whatever looks good on the shelf for greens and fresh fruit. Try it and see for yourself about this Berry delicious Salad!
Take 1 bag of fresh salad greens, I like the Spring Mix myself, and pour into a big salad bowl.
In a saucepan, boil 3-4 large eggs like you would normally do till they are hard-boiled. Cool with cold water. Peel them and roughly chop them. Put them in the bowl with the greens.
In a frying pan, fry 1/2 lb. of bacon. Drain grease off. When cool, crumble the bacon pieces and sprinkle them over the greens.
On a Cookie Sheet, sprinkle a small bag of Almond slivers and a small bag of Pecan pieces and toast them under the broiler for a few minutes to lightly brown and toast them. Watch them the whole time. They burn easily. You could also try this in a non-stick pan on the stove top, if you wish, just keep stirring them around to get browned.
Next, You will need to add the following cleaned FRESH FIRM fruits (not canned or too ripe where they’re soft), and however much you want to purchase/use in your salad:
Seedless Red Grapes (cut in half)
Seedless Green Grapes (cut in half)
AND 2 Cans of DRAINED Mandarin Orange Slices
When ready to serve, pour a CHILLED bottle of sweet fruity salad dressing of your choice….not the “normal” salad ones. Enjoy!
