Sweet potatoes are also a beneficial food for diabetics. Studies have revealed that they help to stabilize blood sugar levels. Sweet potatoes are often confused with the yam, but they are not even closely related to the yam family.

Sweet potatoes have a long history of cultivation in Louisiana and they grow in warm and tropical regions. The French and Spanish settlers favorite food was the sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are rich in dietary fiber and contain complex carbohydrates. Don’t forget to add sweet potatoes to your menu for the holidays. They will add zest and color to any table.
