Ever go to a Coffee House and see fancy chocolate coated spoons for stirring into coffee? Well, try making your own at home! Once you get good at this, you can double your recipe and do MORE spoons for gifts!
What You’ll Need:
- waxed paper
- at least 20-24 plastic spoons–try to get the nicer ones, not the real cheap ones.
- 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 12 oz. milk chocolate chips
- 12 oz. white chocolate, chopped into small pieces
- 12 oz. mint chocolate chips
- decorative candies
- 4 saucepans
- sandwich freezer ziplock bags for drizzling chocolate decorations
Place a piece of waxed paper on a cookie sheet. You will make approximately 20-24 chocolate coated spoons or more–approximately 5 or 6 of each chocolate flavor.
In a saucepan, pour about 9 ounces (3/4 of the bag) of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Melt over low heat. Stir contantly until chocolate begins to melt. Immediately remove pan from heat and stir until smooth. Dip spoons into chocolate. Coat well, Make sure the “well” or “bowl” of the spoon is filled. Place spoons on waxed paper. Use up the chocolate with as many plastic spoons as it takes for this step. Put a long handled wooden spoon on the waxed paper so the handles of the plastic spoons can rest on the wooden handle, keeping the chocolate level inside the well of the spoon “bowl.”
Repeat process for the milk chocolate, mint chocolate, and white chocolate. Place the cookie sheet of coated spoons in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or until chocolate is set.
With the rest of the 4 flavors of chocolate chips (approx. 3 ounces each), heat them in their same saucepans the same way as above until melted. Pour the different chocolates into ziplock bags. Use scissors and snip a tiny corner off the first bag and drizzle on both sides of whichever spoons you want that particular flavor on, making a decorative pattern such as tiny dots, zig-zags, swirls, hearts, circles, smiley faces, etc. You could drizzle semi-sweet chocolate on the mint chocolate spoons and white chocolate on the semi-sweet chocolate spoons and milk or semi-sweet chocolate on the white chocolate spoons. You can even put chocolate sprinkles in the spoon wells, or mini marshmellows or contrasting chocolate chips or candies for more decoration and MORE flavor! Refrigerate the spoons again for 30 minutes to allow drizzled chocolate to set.
Wrap each spoon separately in clear cellophane and use a ribbon to tie off the top, OR by taking several of each, put spoon handles down inside a pretty mug with the chocolate coated spoons up then wrap mug and all with cellophane and a ribbon tie! This is a great chocolate lover’s gift! Have fun creating!!
