AJ’S Gyro Café

AJ’s Gyro Café was the restaurant of choice after our usual restaurant was closed for a company Christmas party. AJ’s Gyro Café was just right down the street. We had read on the internet they make everything from scratch, so tonight was the night. The building they occupied use to be the Ranch House 1950’ era restaurant, long gone. I couldn’t wait to see what AJ’s Gyro Café has done to the interior décor. We were greeted by a friendly young girl, she told us to sit any where we liked, and we chose a booth as usual for the comfy seats. Booths lined the walls with tables in the center of the room. The counter was still there from the previous restaurant with stools. The restaurant looked clean. Blue and yellow was the choice of colors. Two Tvs showing a travel documentary of Greece, (no sound) The walls were covered with large prints of Greek destinations. Literature on Greece displayed.

We ordered what the specialty was a gyro (Yeero) My partner ordered lamb, homemade fries, and a drink. I ordered a chicken Gyro and drink. The waitress at that time informed us they were out of lettuce would that be ok, we said yes… It didn’t take long for the waitress to bring the drinks, a short while later she brought the Gyros. Presentation was nice the way the Gyro was double wrapped and presented in a basket. The waitress informed me I had received the last of the chicken. I kept looking for the chicken until I realized it was shaved like the lamb. So I’ve never had a chicken gyro. I plucked some homemade fries from my partners basket, they looked to brown to me, and tasted too done and not crisp. The pita was warm and nicely done. The Gyro had chopped onions, tomatoes, strips of shaved chicken, tzatziki sauce…

The menu was large as most Greek menus are, there is something for everyone. If you are looking for something special call ahead, menus are subject to change as well as prices.
