How to help someone with Depression

Depression affects millions of people worldwide, making it probable that you know someone dealing with depression. Depression, not only affects the person who is depressed, it affects family and friends of the depressed. Watching someone you love go through the affects of depression, such as losing weight, not eating, and crying uncontrollably can be a daunting task to deal with. You may feel you helpless. There isn’t a magic, pill that can help depression go away, but there are some things that you can do to ease the situation for the person dealing woth depression.

  1. Step 1

    Once you learn that someone you know battles depression, try to learn what depression is, understand its warning signs and symptoms. There is a wealth of information on the internet and many books that offer insight.

  2. Step 2

    Encourage the depressed. One of the biggest things you can do is encourage the person with depression. It may not seem like it will help, but it probably will even in the smallest increment. Understand, though, the encouragement should go at a slow pace. Depressed people already feel overwhelmed.

  3. Step 3

    Let the person dealing with depression know you will always be there. This is tremendous. Having as much support as possible is a key to helping them heal.

  4. Step 4

    Listen first and learn how to direct their sad thoughts into happy and joyous thoughts.

Tips: The depressed person needs as much support as you can give.
Warnings: The depressed pesson may lash out as you sometimes.  Understand it is not them, but what they are going though,  Please don’t take it personal.
