PICK A SUBJECT YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT ON YOUR BLOG

Writing about what you know gives you a chance to express yourself well enough to keep an audience coming back. You can be the moderator or you can be opinionated. How your blog is run is up to you.

USE YOUR FRIENDS TO KEEP YOUR BLOG GOING

Use your natural networks to start testing yourself. Participate in cross-advertisement with friends who have websites. Place yourself in the midst of traffic by commenting on other blogs and inviting them to yours.

POST FREQUENTLY ON YOUR BLOG

Some bloggers post daily. God bless them. Other post weekly or bi-weekly. The urgency of your subject dictates how often you post. However, it pays to be posting frequently because you can lose your audience if your blog is stale. It is up to you to turn what you are truly passionate about to keep your writing life healthy.

AVOID CONTROVERSY WITH YOUR BLOG

You can embrace controversy if that’s your style. I am all for free speech, not filthy speech. You are the mind behind the blog and you know what you want. However, always keep opening doors for yourself, not shutting them behind you.

HAVE FUTURE PLANS FOR YOUR BLOG

Maybe you want your blog to be about engineering, so you want to start appealing to engineers to join your blog. Plan ahead for your blog. You never know which one of your passions might become a cash cow for you.
