How to Maintain Accountability in Church

SET DOWN RULES

Jesus Christ said that a divided house cannot stand. Make binding rules about conduct in the church and have everyone commit to it. This shows the younger people in the church that there is a sense of order. The absence of discipline in the church has become the biggest turn-off for those who think the church should know better.

REMOVE BAD EXAMPLES

You cannot keep some one in an unrepentant state as a leader of the church. You cannot make someone living in an adulterous relationship the head of the youth ministry. You simply cannot overlook these things. The church must agree to purge itself of any person or concept that is contrary to the word of God.

DON’T POLITICIZE THE CHURCH

The church does not belong to anybody so chopping it into factions is the biggest disservice you can do to God. Church politics is the most unpalatable concept in Christianity. The church is run on God’s Word, not on the counsel of 21st century Pharisees and Sadducees.

GIVE CHURCH MEMBERS A CHANCE TO VENT

Create a blog where church members can register concern, praise and suggestions to the church. Your church members are God’s flock and they deserve to have a say in whatever happens to the church. You need to have their input.

THE PASTOR MUST LEAD BY EXAMPLE

A strong and saved pastor is the best tool to sustain accountability in the church. The laws of God have equal application to all. It is the pastor’s duty to let his church know that. The pastor must be able to call out wrongdoing when he/she sees it, regardless of who did it.
