Pregnant woman may get frequent headaches and the causes of headaches can be numerous. Here are several causes of pregnancy headaches and its possible solutions.
Causes for Pregnancy Headaches
Pregnancy Hormones: Pregnancy hormones may be the first cause for headaches. Elevated amounts of estrogen and progesterone may trigger headaches more frequently.
Dehydration: Most of the nutritionists agree that primary reason for all pregnancy headaches is not taking enough fluid that results in dehydration. Whether a woman is pregnant or not, the possible solution for headaches caused by dehydration is drinking a few glass of water. So, it is a must for all pregnant women to take at least 12 glasses of water per day.
Sinus: Another cause could be nasal stuffiness or sinus, which is caused by the increase in vascularity in the paranasal.
Hypertension: If the headaches are accompanied with dizziness, blurred vision, and sudden swelling, then it is better to contact the physician as quickly as possible. These could be the symptoms of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH). Other possible causes of headaches include lack of sleep and stress.
Possible Solutions to cope with Headaches
It is always good to consult with the physician for any kind of headaches during pregnancy. Here are the possible solutions for the headaches.
- Drink two glasses of water immediately.
- Massage forehead, shoulder, back of head, and neck.
- For headaches caused by sinus, use a humidifier.
- Rest the feet in a small tub of warm water.
- Drink small amount of caffeine (not recommended, so better have this as the last option).
