First of all if you think you are hungry and you just ate, give it a few minutes. Let your food digest. Wait at least 20 minutes after a meal or snack before considering anything else.

In the meantime, drink something. Sometimes our bodies misinterpret thirst signals for hunger. Fill up on fluids. This may instantly solve the problem.

If it is bedtime, go to sleep. Fatigue can also be misconstrued as hunger by the body.

Do some exercise. Take your mind off of the hunger. This will also release endorphins which signal the body to be content. It can mimic eating.

Chew some gum or low calorie candies. This will keep the mouth busy.

Drink some coffee, tea or other no calorie caffeinated beverage. This takes the edge off, and signals your taste buds it is time to stop eating.

Get out from in front of the television. This is where most of us overeat.

Get active. The more active you are, the less time you have to eat.

If you follow all of these pointers, it will become much easier to stop eating when you are bombarded by the urges. In particular, pay attention to when these urges occur, so that you might begin to understand the reasons behind your binge eating. By using all of these resources, you will be able to get control of this bad habit and be on your way to a healthier lifestyle.
