How to Treat Infertility

Give it time. Most couples will conceive if they keep trying. At least a year after you stop using birth control is a good average. Some conceive within 6 months and others may take two years.

Women should take iron and folic acid supplements.

Worrying only makes it worse. Try to not stress. Focus on the fun you are having while trying to conceive.

Do not worry about ovulation dates until you are positive that you have given it enough time. The more you enjoy sex and relax, the more likely you will conceive.

Use the missionary position on ovulation days if possible. After the man ejaculates the woman should lie down for about a half an hour in the same position.

For women, be aware of your periods. Are you ovulating? You can buy ovulation kits to test. The best time to use is mid morning for valid results. If you do not get a positive result after two to four cycles of testing, or two to four months, check with your doctor.

Ovulation usually occurs about mid-cycle. If you are regular it will be about 15 days after your period. Try to have as much sex as possible at this time.   

Stop smoking. For men it reduces sperm count, and for women they become less fertile. Now is the time to give it up.

Stay away from alcohol. Drink in moderation

Do not douche. It upsets the vaginas balance. It will clean itself just fine.

Try to stay away from soda, coffee, chocolate or any other caffeinated foods or beverages. It is known to interfere with conception.

Keep your body weight normal. The closer you are to a normal weight the more likely you are to conceive.

For men in particular stay away from hot tubs; Sperm thrive in a cooler environment.

Men should wear loose fitting underwear and jeans or pants. No tightie whities.

Men should not smoke, drink in excess, or do drugs. This will severely upset the hormonal balance and sperm count.

Do not take steroids or other prescription or non-prescription drugs that are not absolutely necessary. This is crucial for both men and women.

If you are over 35 and have tried to conceive for a year or more with no success, consult a doctor.

If you have had multiple inflammatory infections and have had trouble with conception call a doctor.

Chlamydia is an infection that can harm men and women internally and interfere with conception. If either partner has suffered from this infection or you are having trouble conceiving, call a doctor.
