Camping is great recreation and fun for many who love the outdoors and simpler life! We love to cook over an open fire and the more we do it, the better we like and and the better we get at it. Here is a great, tasty easy snack to make when you have some hot coals just beckoning to be used. These apples really smell great baking too. Responsible kids will enjoy doing this! Be careful, fires are hot!! Have fun and happy cooking!
What You’ll Need:
- crushed walnuts or pecans
- heavy duty aluminum foil
Wash the apple. With a knife or apple corer, core the apple carefully, but leave the bottom of the apple in place.
Sprinkle the inside of the apple with cinnamon and sugar. Stuff the cored out part with raisins and nuts and tightly pack it in there.
Sprinkle the apple and center top again with cinnamon and sugar. Put a pat of butter at the top.
Wrap the apple right side up in a square of heavy duty aluminum foil. Twist the top to make a nice handle.
Place the apple right in the coals with handle upwards, turning occasionally. Heat it until the apple feels soft when you squeeze it with your oven mitted hands or long tongs.
Open the foil and let it cool some before eating as it will be hot. It will taste a lot like a specialty applesauce or apple dessert. Enjoy!
NOTE: You can also put a piece of unwrapped Brach’s caramel in the apple center with some chopped nuts if you like that kind of apple flavor.
