Below are some ingredients that can be used to clean many different items or areas around the home.
Lemon juice: This can be used to clean several different things around the home. It can be used neat on a sponge to clean the inside of a microwave,a work surface (please note:DO NOT use lemon on antique or delicate surfaces).Draining boards. Simply apply to a damp sponge, scrub and rinse. You can also use this method to remove limescale and general bathroom scum from taps. Add 2-3 drops of lemon juice into the final rinse on a dishwasher to add or restore shine to dull glassware.
Rhubarb: Can be used to polish silver, copper or brass. Simply rub a stick of rhubarb on it, I know it sounds odd but it really does work!
Vinegar: Excellent at removing limescale, pour over the affected area and leave for about 15 minutes, then wipe with a warm, damp sponge. The same method can be used to remove water marks. Pour white vinegar onto a soft cloth to restore shine to coated tables and chairs. Pour onto a warm damp sponge to remove those annoying sticker marks that get left behind. It can also be used to prevent mould from forming in cupboards and breadbins.
Salt: Pour a solution of salt water down the drain to help stop blockages and get rid of unpleasant smells.
Bicarbonate of soda: An incredibly versatile cleaning product! Put a handful into a dirty saucepan, pour on hot water, wait 15-25 minutes, wipe with a damp cloth then rinse. Make a paste using warm water to clean stainless steel sinks (or stainless steel anything). Leave a small bowl of Bicarbonate of soda in the fridge to stop any unpleasant smells. It can also even be used to help eliminate smells from shoes, pour a generous amount into shoes, leave overnight and simply empty in the morning.
Boiling water: Simple boiling water is somethng that so many people overlook, but it is remarkable effective at cleaning and sanitising. Pour into dirty bowls or saucepans, over draining boards and so forth.
Like any cleaning product, some of these solutions will require more effort than others,it depends on how dirty the item you are trying to clean is!
