One of the most frustrating things about running a web based business is getting people to visit there in the first place. When it comes to getting your business noticed you have many options to choose from just like you would if you had a brick and mortar business. You could buy advertising spots, pay for radio, run a TV commercial, and host an event and so on.
However all of the items cost money and for an online business chances are they impractical, well most of them anyway. Immediately a lot of online businesses turn to Google or Yahoo! Advertisements where you only pay when someone actually clicks your ad. Even at as little as ten cents for a click this can add up quickly.
Bypass all of those paid forms of potential business marketing tactics and go right for the one that I know personally works. What is it you really want out of your online business? Customers right? Right! But first they must find your website, and here is a technique that you can start using right now!
You are an expert at something. Your website sells something and you by default should or probably do, already know everything, or almost everything there is about that business. Now all you need to do is pass that knowledge onto others. What? You say…is this guy crazy? Well no, but let me explain.
Let’s say for instance you sell digital cameras. You obviously know quite a lot about the business. What you need to do is write one article everyday about the digital camera business, but more specifically your article should give detailed information as to how a potential customer (the person reading your article) can better use a camera they will buy from your website.
Using our camera example you can write an article on how to take better pictures, an article on what makes for the best settings for a photograph and so many more. You get the point.
Once you have your article written, you then submit it to various article directories like Bukisa, Article Dashboard, and Ezine Articles. These are free online article directories that you submit your articles to.
Now you are probably asking, so how exactly does this help me? Well you are in luck, each of these directories I mentioned allow you to put in what is called a resource box. In the resource box you will put who you are a link to your website and other information that you feel is valuable to the reader. A typical resource box reads, “John Doe is the owner of XYZ Digital Cameras, an online full service digital camera shop that can be found at www.xyzdigitalcamaras.com.”
You get the point. Submit those articles to the previously mentioned directories complete with that resource box and then the fun really begins. Just submitting them gives you one to three links back to your site and you might be saying so what is so great about that. What happens now is these sites are “article directories”. In other words they allow visitors to their sites to use your submitted articles on their blogs, websites and other information sites. Now imagine your article being picked up by 50, 100 or even 150 different websites. Impossible? It’s not, I personally have written a number of articles that have been picked up as high as 400 times! The more useful the information is that you give, the better chance it has of being picked up and syndicated.
Every time your article is picked up or syndicated, it is done so with the link back to your website that you placed in your resource box. If you wrote and submitted one article everyday with your link and each article was picked up just 10 times, by the end of one month you would have an additional 300 different websites pointing back to your website.
I did this for one month and watched my unique visits go from about 100 a day to almost 2000 per day. It works, and the best part is the only thing it costs is your time. Now go and start writing some articles so you can build your online business!
