  • Stay out of the sun. Think of the sun as an oven. Put a piece of meat in a hot oven and it cooks. That is what is happening to your skin when you bake in the sun. Sun damage is the main cause of wrinkling.
  • Apply sun block daily, especially if you live in a hot climate. Stay away from surfaces that may reflect light like sand, or snow.
  • Try to stay inside as much as possible from 11 am to 3pm. These are peak sun times.
  • Take a vitamin D supplement. This will give you the D you need without sun exposure.
  • Drink lots of water. It moisturizes the skin from inside.
  • Apply moisturizer while skin is damp. It locks in the moisture.
  • Do not make funny or scrunched up faces. Keep away from extremes from smiling to frowning or squinting. If you already have some lines, these expressions will only make them worse.
  • If you are in the sun make sure you are as protected as possible. Wear sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat for the face. Make sure your body is covered with sunscreen as well, especially if you are in a bathing suit.
  • Stay away from excessive alcohol. This causes dehydration. It also causes puffiness which can lead to stretching and contracting of skin tissue which leads to wrinkling.
  • Eat healthy. B vitamins are essential for healthy skin. Fruits and green veggies are the best for healthy moisturized skin.
  • Do not diet excessively. If you lose and gain weight you will lose elasticity.
  • Throw away the cigarettes or tobacco products. These extract essential vitamins from your tissue, and lead to wrinkling. Also the constant mouth manipulations cause wrinkles around the mouth.
  • Use facial massage. While you are in the shower use a good facial scrub and a moisturizing face wash on alternate days. Gently manipulate your face with your fingers in a circular motion on your cheeks, forehead and neck. This increases blood flow to the area and leads to a healthier complexion.
  • Creams with salicylic acid are known wrinkle reducers. Use them consistently as recommended.
  • Use a moisturizing face mask at least twice a month.
  • Get moisturizing or oxygenated facials when possible.
  • Use mild soap that is specifically for the body and face so you do not dry out the skin.
  • Use a humidifier. It helps keep the air moist in your surroundings which will lead to more supple skin.
  • Reduce stress through yoga, or relaxation techniques. Less stress means less facial contractions which ultimately lead to less wrinkling.
  • Try to sleep with satin or silk pillowcases. These do not scrunch up as much as cotton and lead to less facial wear.
  • Use Pepto-Bismol on your skin for 15 minutes. It contains salicylic acid and helps reduce wrinkles while giving the skin a pink glow.
  • Use olive oil under the eyes at night.
  • Use vitamin A creams that contain tretinoin. They can generally be used for long periods safely.
