Thinking about starting a business? Already own a startup business just not sure how to get the word out there about it? Here are some simple things you can try to build your business with as little capital as possible.

Start with a website. If you don’t have one, get one. You can be up and running with a basic website in no time. If you search your local area on Craigslist you’ll be sure to find some high school kid that can develop it for you for less than $100. Your website is a great calling card for your business that people can go to 24/7 to learn about your products or services.

Write up a press release to your local newspaper. Your local paper, especially now in the slugging economy, is looking to help out local businesses. Your press release should be newsworthy, answer the who, what, when, where, how and why of your business, service or industry. A piece of paper, an envelope and a stamp is all it will cost you for this valuable piece of free advertising.

Now that you have a website you should start promoting it. Once people start seeing your website, it will start promoting your business. You are in business doing something and that makes you an expert in that field. Now what you need to do is start writing informative articles about your industry and submit them to online article directories which are free. For example, let’s say you sell cameras. Write articles on how to take good pictures, what people should look for in a camera and so on. Make sure you put a active link to your website in the article resource box so readers of your article can find you. Once you write these articles submit them to article directories such as Ezine or Aritcle Dashboard. Bloggers are always looking for informative articles to add to their blogs so their readers can learn about certain topics. Every time your article gets picked up so does the link back to your website. I know of one person who used this technique and within 30 days of writing just one article per day, they are receiving about 1500 unique visits to their website.
