Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the world. It’s sad to know that sometimes we don’t know that we are already going to have an attack. We feel the symptoms but we ignore it thinking that we are invincible. The kind of diet we currently have is one of the main reasons for getting the disease. All of us are too busy with our work, stressed at meeting deadlines and don’t have much time to prepare a healthy meal. We depend on fast food chains and ready made quick food preparations.
Eat foods low in sodium and less in fats. Choose foods that are rich in fiber such as pineapple, fruits and vegetables. Watch out of your daily calorie intake. Saturated fats and trans fats are more likely to cause heart disease so try to avoid foods with high saturated and trans fat content. These foods are usually found in animal produce like cheese, butter, meat, chicken, palm and coconut oils. Foods rich in sodium results to high blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure, the heart will have difficulty working and would increase the risk of a heart disease. We need fat and sodium in our diet but it has to be in moderation. Eating foods rich in fiber such as fruits, vegetables and whole wheat grains will help lower our chances of getting the disease. So start adding these foods in your daily diet.
Always read the labels of the foods you purchase at the supermarket. Watch out for high fat and sodium content. Choose those with fewer calories and high fiber content. Eat pineapples if you can as this fruit has high fiber content. Bananas are also good for the heart as it is rich in Potassium. Potassium helps maintain the normal function of the heart. It regulates the rhythm of the heart. Some foods that are good for the heart are dried fruits such as raisins and prunes. Fresh fruits such as strawberries, watermelons and oranges. Eating carrots is also associated with reduced risk of heart disease.
We are the food we eat. Certain diseases can be avoided if only we start eating right and healthy foods. Many diseases that we get usually result from unhealthy diet and lifestyle. The best prevention is to start eating healthy from now on.
