Two great holiday drink recipes: Cranapple cider and Candy Cane Cocoa

With the holidays right around the corner most of us will be doing at least a little entertaining. Entertaining guests means preparing food and drinks.


However, many times we get tired of serving the same old beverages time after time. Several years ago I decided to embark on making an drink book of beverages that I could serve for holidays and special occasions. Some recipes I concocted all on my own others I took recipes I found and put my own special twist to them to make them uniquely my own.


While looking through the book recipe for some great drinks to serve for Halloween I came across a couple of drinks that are perfect for this time of year and decided to share them with you.


Cranapple Cider


Cranberry mix

10 cinnamon sticks broken into pieces.

½ cup dried sweeten cranberries

1T whole allspice


apple cider

3 oranges sliced


In a large sauce pan combine 2 quarts apple cider, one quart water and cranberry mix, heat until nice and warm. Add two sliced oranges and serve with an orange garnish and a cinnamon stick.


Makes 3 quarts



Candy Cane Cocoa


4 cup milk

¾ cup sugar

1 tsp. Peppermint extract

11/2 cup baking cocoa

1 pt. chocolate chip ice cream

chocolate syrup

8 Candy canes crushed


Combine milk, sugar, and cocoa in a large saucepan. Heat over medium heat until hot, but not boiling.

Divide evenly into 8 large mugs, place a scoop of ice cream on the top with a sprinkle of candy cane pieces.


Makes 8 servings
