How to Make Hash Browns or at Least Something Like it: A recipe for success

Hash browns are amazing, I think everyone can agree on that fact but without the proper knowledge they can seem frustrating to make. Here is a quick lesson on how to make them:

You’ll need:

-Olive Oil (You could use other oils but this is what I use).

-Potatoes- I use whatever I bought that week, red, yukon gold, or russet.

-Salt and pepper- I like to use some seasoned salt too.

-A grater.

-Paper towels or something absorbant.

-A Pan!

Step one: Cover your pan with a thin layer of olive oil and heat. I usually go with a 6 or 7 which is medium high on my stove.

Step two: Grate the potatoes into those little strips. This can be a pain in the ass if you don’t have a good grater, so you could just take a knife and slice them up real nice. Take these strips and press them with the paper towels to get as much water out of them as possible.

Step three: Put the potatoes in the heated oil and spread them around. Add your seasoning (salt and pepper). Cook one side until they get that nice golden brown color we all enjoy and flip it. Once the bottom is cooked and the potatoes have cooled they are ready to serve.

Sometimes I just cut the potatoes up into thin slices and follow the same process to make some form of chips. I usually fry them with sliced onions and add some eggs for a cheap and hearty meal. That’s all there is to cooking hash browns in your own home.
