They don’t make action movies like they used to and that’s the first thing that comes to mind while watching Raiders of the Lost Ark, the first film that launched the Indiana Jones franchise. Led by director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas, Harrison Ford stars in the title role as Indiana Jones in this action packed adventure that delivers one entertaining moment after the next.
Raiders of the Lost Ark sends the Indiana Jones character out to retrieve the Ark of the Covenant from the villainous Nazis who want to use it in order to make their army invincible. The backbone of this story all stemmed from an idea of Lucas’ to create a modernized version of the serials from the 1930s and 1940s, what resulted was the highest grossing film of 1981, nine Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture), and five winnings (Art Direction, Sound, Film Editing, Sound Effects Editing, and Visual Effects).
If you want to see how a great action film is done the right way but with old school (and believable, I might add) special effects, then check out Raiders of the Lost Ark.
