I love disaster movies, I’ll be quite honest about that. They’re fun, enjoyable, destructible, and very entertaining. Disaster!: A Major Motion Picture Ride… Starring You! at Universal Studios Orlando offers guests an opportunity to take part in one and get hands-on knowledge about what goes into making one. Formerly known as Earthquake: The Big One, Disaster! opened along with Universal Studios Orlando back in June 1990, originally drawing inspiration from the 1974 film Earthquake starring Charlton Heston.
Basically, there’s this movie studio headed by Frank Kincaid (Christopher Walken) that’s going bankrupt and is desperate enough to hire visitors to fill in as extras for key insert scenes. As a reward for helping Mr. Kincaid complete this film, he offers the guests to take part of the huge finale involving an earthquake inside a subway station.
First let me say that the entire pre-show is one big ball of boredom. Yes a lot of the rides at Universal Studios have pre-shows or introductions but this is one overly done and long piece of work I’m talking about here. The whole pre-show involves three different rooms and you need to spend about ten minutes in each one, I’m not going to even bore you with the details of this pre-show, if you really want to know then go to Wikipedia.
