Reviewing Doneraki Mexican Restaurant in Houston, Texas

The history of Doneraki comes from Monterrey, Mexico where the Rodriguez brothers used to go to get their tacos from a Native called Erakio which made great food with different spices and seasonings. The brothers then transported the notion to Houston, Texas and the restaurant became an instant hit with the locals for their Tex-Mex variety. The restaurant is located at 7705 Westheimer Road and the hours of operations are Monday through Thursday from 11:00 A.M to 11:00 P.M, Friday from 11:00 A.M to 2:00 A.M, Saturday from 8:00 A.M to 2:00 P.M and Sunday from 8:00 A.M to 11:00 P.M

The atmosphere of the place is very laid back and happy go lucky and the colorful walls will make you feel that way, the restaurant can get loud during rush hour and especially during the weekend so if you prefer a quite setting this may not be the venue.

They have great happy hour prices and Monday through Wednesday they are good all day and Thursday through Friday from 11:00 A.M to 7:00 P.M., so you can have the small tropical margaritas at only $1.99 and taste their different flavors such as mango, strawberry, melon, kiwi and peach.

For their appetizers you can start out with the nachos compuestos which are with bean and cheese with jalapeno for $4.50 a small portion, or the mocajete de aguacate which is an avocado salad for $8.95, or the botana mixta which you can share with the table and it is a mix of appetizers such as Mexican grilled cheese, chicken flauta and fajitadillas for $9.50.

Part of their menu that is a must try and definitely brought from the original Mexican roots are the Don Erakio famous tacos and you can choose from the tacos al pastor which are made with marinated pork for $8.95, or the tacos al carbon especiales which you can add chicken, beef or trompo which is the pork for $10.95, or the taco Doneraki which comes with sautéed spinach, creamy sauce and Chihuahua cheese for $10.95. But you can also order a few dishes from the Texas favorites such as the Tamal plate (pork or chicken) for $8.95, the chalupas for $7.95 or the burrito Texas style for $9.95.

To end your meal you can order some of the desserts such as the flan for $4.50, or the sopapillas or the churros for $3.95, or the tres leches for $4.95.
