- Step 1
All players are given three poker chips.
- Step 2
Remove the Jokers from the deck of cards, this will leave you with four cards of each suit of A,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,J,Q and K.
- Step 3
A is equivalent to 1 or 11, you decide.
2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 is equivalent to the face value of the card.
J,Q and K are each equivalent to 10.
A, 10 and J of the same suit equals 31.
A, 10 and Q of the same suit equals 31.
A, 10 and K of the same suit equals 31.
A, J and Q of the same suit equals 31.
A, J and K of the same suit equals 31.
A, Q and K of the same suit equals 31.
- Step 4
Choose someone to be the first dealer.
After each round the dealer changes to the person on the left of the previous dealer.
The dealer will shuffle the playing cards thoroughly.
Then the dealer will pass one card at a time to each person, until everyone has three cards.
- Step 5
The dealer will place the top card on the remaining deck face up. And the remaining cards face down.
- Step 6
The person directly to the left of the dealer is first to play.
- Step 7
At this point if anyone is dealt a total of thirty one from the three cards of the same suit, they throw down their cards and say 31!
Everyone except the person who has thirty one has to forfeit a poker chip.
- Step 8
It’s now your turn, you have three options:
a. Pick up the top card off the deck.
b. Pick up the top card that is facing up. (only the top card can be picked up)
- Step 9
If you decide to pick up the top card off the deck, you can either discard it or discard one of the other cards you have in your hand.
- Step 10
If you decide to pick up the top card that is facing up, you would have to discard one of the other cards you are holding.
Remember the object of the game is to accumulate the same suit that equals as close to 31.
- Step 11
By knocking you force everyone to have one last turn in that round.
However, you can not pick up any cards off the two decks.
Make certain you have a high number.
Because the person who has the lowest total in the same suit in that round forfeits a chip.
- Step 12
All your chips are gone. Now what?
There is still one last opportunity before you are eliminated. That’s called “on your elbows”.
- Step 13
If you lose the next round you have been eliminated.
The game ends when there is only one person standing.
- Step 14
They are the winner!
