  1. Step 1donttalktostrangers_Thumb.jpg don’t talk to strangers

DON’T TALK TO OR GO WITH STRANGERS – As a parent, talk to your kids and tell them not to talk to or go with strangers and if they are approached by someone they don’t know, tell them to find a police officer, an adult in charge, or someone familiar.

  2. Step 2keepingkidsinsight_Thumb.jpg keep kids in sight at all times

KEEP CHILDREN IN SIGHT – When going out in public or anywhere a crowd or gathering is, keep your kids with you and in your sight. Don’t give them the chance to wander off.

  3. Step 3computer_Thumb.jpg monitor what your child does online

INTERNET – Monitor what your child is viewing and who they are talking to online. There are a lot of predators out there, so be aware of what your child is doing online.

  4. Step 4cellphone_Thumb.jpg provide kids with a cell phone for emergencies

CELL PHONES – Provide your child with a cell phone if they are going to be away from you for an extended period of time such as if they are going on a trip with school or friends. Have them call and check in so you know where they are and that everything is ok.

  5. Step 5emergencynumbers_Thumb.jpg make sure kids know emergency numbers

EMERGENCY NUMBERS OR 911 – Make sure that your child knows what phone numbers to call in the event of an emergency. This can be 911, family, or friends numbers and always make sure that they have a number where you, the parent, can be reached.

  6. Step 6house4_Thumb.jpg don’t leave kids home alone

DON’T LEAVE HOME ALONE – Don’t leave children that aren’t of appropriate age home alone. Again, there are a lot of predators out there and children that are not old enough or responsible enough should not be left unattended, even at home.

  7. Step 7curfew_Thumb.jpg set a curfew

SET A CURFEW – If your child is old enough and is going to be out with friends, set a curfew for your child to be home at a certain time. This way, you know what time to expect them to be home and are not left wondering, waiting, or worrying.

  8. Step 8questionmark_Thumb.jpg make a point of knowing who, what, when, where, and how

KNOW IT ALL – When your child is away from you, know where your child is, what they are doing, and who they are with at all times. This will help to keep you from worrying so much while they are away from you.
