Jennifer’s Body is a story about two girls who have been best friends since they were children. Jennifer (Megan Fox) is the preppy school cheerleader who all the girls wants to be and all the boys want. Needy who is played by Amanda Seyfried (Big Love, Mama Mia) is the social outcast in the story. Not to give too much away, but one night something bad happens and Jennifer becomes a monster that eats teenage boys. Needy then becomes the hero who tries to stop her from doing so.
The graphic novel, written by Black Metal’s Rick Spears, actually has very little in it of Jennifer herself. Instead, we follow her victims and learn what makes them tick, so that when we do see the film, we’ll know if they got what was coming to them. Even if you don’t want to see the movie, the graphic novel is worth a read all on its own. But be warned, if you read the book first, and intend on seeing the movie you are in spoiler territory.
This new horror flick is filmed in what is called flashback structure. Flashback structure is where we open with the ending, there’s a cliff-hanger, because something’s at stake, and then a character tells the story through voice overs. We go through the entire story usually filled with voice overs until we come full circle back to where we started at the ending. There’s usually a twist at the end to surprise the audience. This new horror flick starring Meagan Fox has an original storyline and some more than capable actresses involved. Jennifer’s Body hits theatres September 18th, 2009.
