Most people trace the United State’s current economic difficulties back to the collapse of the sub prime mortgage industry in late 2007. The crisis started as millions of homeowners found that they could no longer afford to pay their adjustable interest rate mortgage loans, and as a result property values have fallen drastically.
As a consequence, over the last two years, the U.S. economy has suffered a recession almost rivaling that of the Great Depression, massive unemployment, and families across the country have lost their homes as between 7.5 and 8 million homes have been foreclosed upon. But don’t despair, not all has gone dark in our great land. Daughter of real-estate guru, Richard Hilton, Paris Hilton seems to think that the market will pick up soon and has initiated construction of new property recently: a new home (indeed a veritable mansion!) for her multitude of pet dogs.
Last month Paris posted pictures of the doghouse she recently built on Twitter. The doghouse cost $350,000 to construct and includes 2 stories, central cooling and heating, and a large, black crystal chandelier. The downstairs has a living room and couches for the dogs to relax on. The upstairs includes the dogs’ bedroom and wardrobe for the many outfits, which Paris has bought for them (says Paris: “”The dogs love to dress up. My friends say they have a better wardrobe than most people”).
There is also a balcony upstairs for when the pampered pooches feel the need for some fresh air. The house is furnished with Philippe Starck furniture (Paris’ dogs sleep on designer dog beds, of course) and decorated with products and from Pawda, Jimmy Chew, Chewy Vuittion, and Sniffany & Co. Paris designed the doggie mansion with the help of Faye Resnick, the interior decorator who helped to design Paris’ own home. The interior decor of the house was designed to closely resemble Hilton’s own house in order to make the dogs feel ‘more at home’.
The house’s exterior is completely furbished with a clay-tile roof, copper gutters, and intricate ceiling molding.
The house will be home to at least 7 of the heiress’ dogs (although she was once reported to possess at least 17): Tinkerbell, Prince Baby Bear, Dolce, Harajuku, Prada, and Marilyn Monroe.
What does Paris Hilton herself think of the house?
“”It’s a miniature version of my house,” says Hilton. “I wanted it to be fun, cute, comfortable and beautiful. My friends just love it and think it’s so adorable and cool.”
