Shattering Dream

I was twenty years old when I first arrived in New Delhi in mid summer of 1982. As I was quite young so was the city. I took up a job in Hotel Hyatt Regency, a Hotel of repute. New Delhi was all set to host Asiad Games in that year under the primeministership of Mrs Indira Gandhi who was also the Chairperson for Non-Alligned movement in that year. Festive mood of The city could be seen everywhere. It was not so conjusted and you could walk around on pavements without any difficulty. I used to stroll down to Janpath quite often ,sitting at D’paul’s sipping coffee, gossiping with Friends. Sometimes would go and sit in Celler at the corner of Regal Buldg.

I was very much fascinated about New Delhi , How was I to know that the City was going to witness a great transformation in the years to come, had it been known to me that Delhi would change abruptly I would have never vasted my youthful years for the city who was to be destroyed later.

I do not go out much now-a-days , spend my time in House flipping the yellowish pages of an
old Diary in which are confined the fragrance of yesteryears, very nostalgic and painful.

There are basically two cities merged together but the difference from one to another can be easily spotted. The premier walled city also known as old Delhi lies to North-Eastern part of the city is a witness to the great turmoil in the History of India, still remains an exclusive place for rare Indo – Mughlai culinary. The Great Urdu poet Asad-ul-llah khan best known as Mirza Galib was born here in Gali kasim jaan was a pillar of the urdu Literature. Its very sad that Indian Government has not taken any initiative in preserving the the Home of The genius.

One afternoon in mid-september last year I was travelling with my Romanian friend Amilia vlad,
who is an architect, as we approached Nizamuddin she suddenly shouted, pointing towards a Cow ” Hi, Satya; just look at your God-Mother eating garbage”.

Well, Delhi remains most polluted capital in spite of serious steps taken recently by State Government due to lake of implementation of laws, Public unawareness and a sense of duty as a citizen.
