Maintaining Healthy and Shiny Hair

As our crowning glory, a lot of people particularly women are very conscious of how their hair looks and spends a lot of time, money and effort just to make their hair look shinier and healthier. When you were younger, you can notice that your hair was so bouncy and shinier than what you have today. This is because as we age, our hair goes through the stress of daily life. Here are some ways on how to take care of one’s hair to make it shinier and healthier.

Rinse with cold water

Rinsing the hair with cold water will smoothen and close the hair follicles in the scalp. As a result, the hair will be shinier. Another technique that one can use to close the hair follicles is to mix 1tbsp of vinegar to 1 galloon of distilled water. One can rinse thoroughly the solution from the hair after a couple of minutes.

Load up with Vitamin E

The hair needs vitamins, specifically Vitamin E. Foods rich in Vitamin E are brown rice, wheat germ, all kinds of nuts and leafy green vegetables. One can also add 1 tbsp of olive oil and one tsp of baking soda to a bowl of mash avocado. The mixture can be applied to the hair for fifteen minutes and one’s hair will definitely be shinier right after rinse.

Avoid overheating the hair

Blow drying and using curling irons often would make one’s hair very dry, so does hot rollers and flat irons. It is still best to dry the hair in a very natural way. If one really needs to use heat on one’s hair, make sure to use products that will help protect the hair from the damaging effects of heat. Use soft rollers instead of spiked plastic rollers when one really needs to do some curling.

Be gentle

Avoid using metal barrettes and tight rubber bands as they will tear the hair down when one wants to remove them. Never put or use anything for the hair that has sharp edges, rough surfaces and claws with metal hinges. Unless necessary, avoid styling one’s hair. Tiny braids and tight coils are good examples of styles than can contribute to hair damage. When putting one’s hair to ponytail, do not pull the hair hard as pulling the hair tightly will result to bald patches.

After washing one’s hair, do not rub the towel vigorously to your hair. Just squeeze the towel gently to the wet hair and do not use a brush in fixing wet hair. When one’s hair is wet, it is in a very delicate stage and the brush may cause damage. As much as possible, use your hands to detangle wet hair or a wide-toothed comb will do.

Avoid extreme diets

When one is on an extreme diet, the body does not get enough nutrients and so does your hair. Ask your doctor first if you can go on a diet.

Deep conditioning

Deep hair conditioning is one of the celebrity secrets to get healthier and shinier hair. One can either buy a kit and do it at home themselves or visit their nearest salon for an hour of deep conditioning. After the entire process, one’s hair would be definitely look healthy and shine all day long.
