If you are reading this then you are probably one of the millions of people affected by the February 17, 2009 switch over to digital. This how to will explain just how easy it is to setup that new HDTV Antenna.

Step 1: PURCHASE ANTENNA: If you have not done so already, you need to purchase an antenna that is digital TV ready. They are relatively inexpensive. Check online for common stores that have them. Walmart had some listed at $30.

Step 2: MOUNT TO ANTENNA: Depending on the antenna purchased, you will either mount the antenna to a mast and run the cable to the TV or you purchased an indoor digital antenna which will replace those old rabbit ears. Make sure you follow the mounting instructions provided with your antenna.

Step 3:CONNECT TO HD OR DIGITAL READY TV: This step is easy. If your TV has a digital tuner built in then connect the antenna to complete the installation.

Step 4: CONNECT TO OLDER ANALOG TV: If you have always had a roof top antenna or used rabbit ears on your TV, then you probably do not have a digital tuner in your TV. Check your manual to be sure. You will need to purchase a device called a digital-to-analog converter that converts the digital signal back down to an analog signal. The box will run you between $40-$70. The government is helping offset this cost by providing a coupon. Visit www.dtv2009.gov for a coupon worth $40. Each household is eligible to receive two coupons.
