Cooking the perfect steak

The first step to cooking the perfect steak is purchasing a good quality cut of meat, such as this T-bone. You will want to be sure that the cut is fresh. Bright pink meat is a sign of quality, you want to avoid the gray, brown looking meats as these are getting old and can potentially make you very ill.

Next you want to be sure the steak is thawed and not frozen! Get the grill up to a high temperature. If using a charcoal grill, the briquettes should be gray and glowing red. If using a broiler, be sure you have the heat cranked way up!

Now place the steak on the grill, off center of the middle. Allow 5 minutes before attempting to move the steak. Just leave it alone!!! Once raw meat hits the hot grill it will stick to the grill until it is seared.(usually 5 minutes is perfect!) After 5 minutes, grab the steak with the tongs and give it a 1/4 turn! Do not flip it over! (not yet)

After the first 1/4 turn and you have waited 5 more minutes, you are now ready to flip the steak over. This creates criss cross lines on the steak. It looks pretty and it is the perfect cooked time. Your friends will be impressed in your chef capabilities.

Now that you have flipped the steak, wait 5 minutes and give it a 1/4 turn. Wait 5 more minutes and your steak is ready!!! So all together you have 2 1/4 turns and 1 flip. This is a sure fire way to prepare the perfect steak every time! This ensures the best flavor and also that the steak is safe to eat.
