“Candy” and “portion control” are words that usually don’t go together for me. So, when I saw Hershey’s Snackster 100 Calorie Packs, Reese’s Peanut Butter, on sale in my local drugstore, I thought, “Sweet!” I could have a yummy candy snack, and not feel guilty. I mean, there was the chance I could eat three Reese’s Snackster packs at once, but it was a risk I was willing to take.
So, in the interest of research, I bought the box and took it home …(ok, truth in reporting)…I opened up one of the 100 calorie packs in the car in the parking lot.
Inside, I found Reese’s Pieces, peanut butter chips and pieces of round and square cereal.
The Reese’s Pieces were great, as expected. After all, the candy is the reason I bought the Snacksters. The peanut butter chips were also fine.
However, the cereal was not so great. I’m not sure if it was just dull compared to the Reese’s Pieces candy, or if it was independently awful. Plus, some of the cereal reminded me of the pellets one of my friends used to feed her hamster when we were kids. I ate the candy and threw the cereal away. Perhaps adding something salty, such as pretzels, into the Hershey’s Snackster 100 Calorie Packs, Reese’s Peanut Butter would have been better.
Then, I thought, since I didn’t eat all 100 calories, I could probably open a couple of other Hershey’s Snackster 100 Calorie Packs and do the same thing – pick out the Reese’s Pieces and the peanut butter chips and throw away the rest.
Since that would be a waste, I decided to give the remaining Reese’s Snackster packs to people at work (they’ll eat anything).
I ended up getting a bag of Reese’s Pieces from the vending machine. It was about twice the calories of the Hershey’s Snackster 100 Calorie Packs, Reese’s Peanut Butter, but that little bag was filled with only the ‘good stuff.’ Candy. Yum.
