How to find the best credit card for you

Your family, friends and co-workers have probably told you at one point or another about a good credit card deal they have discovered.  Just because it is a good deal for them does not mean that the credit card will be a good deal for you.  Comparing different cards is always a good idea before deciding on any one card.

Your family, friends and co-workers have probably told you at one point or another about a good credit card deal they have discovered. Just because it is a good deal for them does not mean that the credit card will be a good deal for you. Comparing different cards is always a good idea before deciding on any one card.

A good credit card deal is one that will work to your benefit and operates well as part of your lifestyle.  So, there is not any “one” good credit card deal.  Every company advertises their card as if everyone needs the same type of card and has the same type of wants, needs and desires.  Not only this but we all have different spending habits and we all look for alternative reward systems when it comes to our credit cards.

Every individual and family has different needs and spending habits.  There are a large variety of credit cards available and this is because credit cards are not a “one size fits all” concept.  For example, someone that lives in New York and never drives would not benefit from the Exxon Mobil credit card that rewards on spending when purchasing gas, since they do not make any fuel purchases.

You should first evaluate your needs and shopping habits.  If frequent flier miles are important to you, then an airline co-branded credit card may be your choice.  However, if you shop often at a particular retail chain then a card offering rebates and discounts for purchases made may be the best deal for you.  Some general credit cards give their customers reward points for purchases made basically everywhere.

Gas stations, retail outlets, grocery stores and department stores everywhere offer their own credit card that is co-branded with a major credit card organization.  You usually receive extra reward points, deals or cash back for purchases made at their locations.

So, finding the best credit card deal for you is not about applying for one based on someone else’s recommendation, but rather doing an evaluation of your lifestyle and researching different credit cards and their incentives.
