10 Simple Ways You Can Help the Environment

1 Recycle. This one I think is the most obvious. Rather than filling landfills with items that will sit there for eternity recycle them so they can be reused.

2 Cut back on emissions. I know this one isn’t an easy one. Whether it’s buying a hybrid car or choosing to walk to the grocery down the street every little bit helps. Also make sure that your vehicle can pass smog, this is directly related to the amount of emissions your car is putting out into the air.

3 Don’t litter. Come on guys you know better. We have trash cans and recycle bins for a reason. Don’t throw your trash on the ground.

4 Don’t waste water. Try to take shorter showers. Turn off the water when brushing your teeth. Only water the lawn once or twice a week. If you think about it there are hundreds of ways you can help save water.

5 Don’t waste electricity. If you leave a room turn the light off. Don’t leave your cell phone charger plugged into the wall when not in use. Even though your phone isn’t attached it’s still sucking up electricity!

6 Buy reusable shopping bags. You see them at almost every store now and they’re usually only 99 cents. Buy a few of them and keep them in the trunk of your car so you always have them when out shopping.

7 Avoid things that aren’t biodegradable. Styrofoam is what comes to my mind immediately. When you buy disposable plates and bowls buy paper not Styrofoam. Many restaurants now have cardboard boxes instead of the usual Styrofoam, ask about it next time you go out.

8 Volunteer. Whether it’s volunteering to clean up liter at your local park or helping plant trees, every little bit helps.

9 Use cloth diapers. The idea of reusable diapers might sound gross to you, but people were using them long before the ones we use today came out. They save you money in diaper costs and they won’t end up rotting away in a landfill somewhere.

10 Cut back on your carbon foot print. Buy foods grown locally. The farther an item has to go to reach you the more gas is used in getting it there.
