5 Must Try Foods in Naples, Italy

If you travel to Naples, one thing besides all the sites that you will enjoy is definitely their food and the love that the locals have for it. This is the city where a must try food is definitely Pizza. Naples’ pizza is considered one of the best in Italy and you will also find a lot of Naples “purists” say that some of the locals will never order pizza in another city. Here are some of the must try foods in Naples.

Mozzarella di Bufala- This is not your typical mozzarella and it extremely popular in the Naples regions. A mozzarella is a cheese that is made by spinning and then cutting, but the Mozzarella di Bufala comes from the so called Water Buffalo and has a much softer taste to it. This is great for an appetizer or as a side dish.

Pizza- this goes with out saying, if you eat a pizza here and then go to another city you will notice the difference. The two typical ones are the Marinara which just has tomatoes, garlic, oregano and extra virgin olive oil and the Margherita pizza which is tomato and mozzarella but this will be buffalo’s mozzarella, basil and extra virgin olive oil. Of course there are a lot of different varieties of pizza that one can order in Naples and still be satisfied but these two are the “typical” ones.

Spaghetti con le vongole- These are spaghetti with clams, and since Naples is a city close to the sea, this is one of the typical dishes. The real recipe calls for the “verace” clams that are a little bigger than the more common ones and all it really has is garlic, basil and olive oil but this dish is exceptionally good.

Pastiera- This is a typical Neapolitan cake and it is made with ricotta cheese, eggs, and wheat. The cake is soft and it is typically served during the colder months due to its high caloric value. In Naples this cake is also a tradition to serve during the Easter lunch.

Baba’- This is a little pastry, and it is a yeast cake saturated in rum, typically they are about 2 inches but you can also find a large Bundt baba’ cake.

A lot of Naples’ entrées are very simple with genuine and healthy ingredients but their pastry side is more complex but equally delicious.
