Becoming One

I have heard that no two snow flakes are alike, and on some scientific level they seem to have been able to prove that. Snowflakes and snow crystals are made of ice, and pretty much nothing more. A snow crystal, as the name implies, is a single crystal of ice. A snowflake is a more general term; it can mean an individual snow crystal, or a few snow crystals stuck together, or large agglomerations of snow crystals that form “puff-balls” which float down from the clouds. The story of a snowflake begins with water vapor in the air. Evaporation from oceans, lakes, and rivers puts water vapor into the air, as does transpiration from plants. Even you, every time you exhale, put water vapor into the air.

Now I have never hear that no two water droplets are not the same, so I would think that would mean that every different snow flake starts out the same and then changes as it is formed, falls to the ground, stays for a while melts and turns back into water and therefore becomes one with itself again.

Now, part of that water vapor that started the whole process came from our breath, human and animals. And I have never heard that no two breaths are alike and I like to think that they are the same. I guess that would imply that we are also part of a snow flake and are not the same; different skin colors, different shapes, different thoughts, needs, loves, dreams and desires.

But maybe that would also mean that one day when we turn back to dirt, and I have never heard that no two dirt balls are not the same, unless we are talking the live human type of dirt ball. So we are all the same again, just like the beginning of a snow flake. It is only different until it melts, melds and turns back into the water that helped to create it, then maybe that water falls on the dirt and creates mud, gets molded back into a human being and life goes on…

So we only think that snow flakes and people are different. But we’re not, and maybe it’s time we learned to love what we see as different and in doing so, learn to love ourselves and the earth and every living thing on it, because in the end we are all really one and all really alike. And most of all we all really depend on and need each other and the earth. We are just like snow flakes, and someday we will melt to start over again.
