Kozhikode is one of the beautiful place and is located in southern part of India, in Keral state. Kazhikode was previously know as a Calicut. It was a most important region of Malabar in Yesteryears. Kozhikode was the capital and most famous trade and commerce center of the powerful Zamorins.

I have read some where the name Kozhikode is derived from the Malayalam word for the crowing of a cock. Kozhikode district was found in 1498 by Portuguese navigator Vasco Da Gama. Vasco Da Gama landed at the Kappad sea.The place surrounded by the fort was known as Koyil (palace) Kotta (fort) and hence the name of the place became Kozhikode. Foreigners called it by different names, for Arabs it was Kalikat, for Chinese it was Kalifo but the city is known to the outside world by its foregn name Calicut.

Kozhikode Beach is famous for the spectacular sunset views seen the seashore. The Beach has two sea piers almost 125 years old extending well inside the sea are a specialty and a lighthouse that offer stunning views of the seashore and the Arabian Sea.

Kozhikode has several institutions of higher learning including a National Institute of Technology and an Indian Institute of Management.

A locally made variety of checked cloth called Calico (from Calicut) was a popular item of export.
