The Different Kinds of Sharks

Here today I want to take a minute to talk about some of the different kinds of sharks out there roaming the seas. I know that due to movies like Jaws and some of the low budget dramas that these creatures often are misrepresented as mindless killers of the human race and this isn’t the case. They are strictly out trying to survive and would usually attacks on humans are cases of mistaken identity as they would rather eat things such as seals.

The very first one that I want to talk about is the Frilled Shark which certainly fits the bill when talking about different kinds of sharks. Thought for quite some time to be extinct one was found alive off the coast of Tokyo in 2007 but died shortly after being placed in captivity. These creatures have the appearance more of a eel than a shark at first glance.

The next couple species to discuss here aren’t really considered to be that different kinds of sharks but are interesting regardless. The Thresher is interesting because of the long tail that can make up as much as 1/3 of the creature’s entire length. They are also capable of reaching considerably large sizes getting up to 20 feet long and weighing as much as 1,500 pounds.

One of my favorite different kinds of sharks is the Bull Shark. One of the more interesting facts here is that these hunters are known to travel many miles up rivers connected to the ocean. In the past they have been found as far inland as Missouri in the United States. Then another one was caught 4,000 miles up the Amazon River. The bad thing about these different kinds of sharks is that they are generally considered the most dangerous to man and blamed for most attacks.
