Madonna’s Stage collapses in France

The stage that collapsed was being built in preparation for her first of five concerts. Madonna “Sticky & Sweet” tour was to arrive in France on Sunday, but the concert has been canceled because of the stage collapse.

As far as the stage’s collapse investigators are determining the cause and the area has been roped off. According to an article on tmz.com the top tier of the stage was on a crane when it collapsed, causing the crane to buckle and fall.  The crane

When the crane did collapse there were several workers caught under it. Thankfully, more workers were not injured in this work site accident at Velodrome stadium in city of Marseille, France. All of those injured people were taken to local hospitals where they are currently being treated for various injuries.

The huge 60,000-seat Velodrome stadium is the second biggest sports arena France. It is also home to the Olympic football club de Marseille. It is a beautiful stadium, which was built in 1937 according to the official stadium guide about velodrome. The stadium received renovations in 1997 through 1998.

The stage collapse did not damage the stadium in any way. That is clear from early photographs on the tmz.com web site. Those images may be graphic to some viewers, so I recommend parental discretion.

The five concerts in France have been canceled. There is no word on the other concerts in this tour, but it is assumed that those will continue. The July 21 show in Barcelona Spain will go on and tickets are still available.

Madonna is distraught with feelings of sadness, as the news of this stage collapse according to various news outlets.

Singer Madonna’s stage collapsed earlier today in the city of Marseille France. This event killed one French man and injured six people. Several people on the scene received grief counseling. Almost 30 fire trucks and countless ambulance personnel flocked to the scene to provide rescue measures. Super star Madonna was not hurt, as she was not in the site. Two of the injured people are seriously hurt and the conditions of the other four were not immediately known.
