It had shaken the Chinese government as the attack was due to the secret planning at home and abroad of religious extremists, separatists and terrorists. The gravity of the situation was as such that Chinese President Hu Jintao had to abandon a G-8 summit in Italy. The call for the UN Security Council by Turkey to discuss ways of ending violence was discarded by the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang saying Xinjiang is an internal affair. Zhou Yongkang, China’s top official in charge of the security, and public security minister Meng Jianzhu reviewed and sent the troops in Urumqi to bring the situation under control.

Beijing cannot afford to loss its grip on the region of Xinjiang, a vast desert territory that boarders Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, which has abundant oil reserves and is China’s largest natural gas producing region. The show of military might as the trucks filled with military rolled into city brought back the confidence of peace in the city. Apprehending fresh violence the prayer in the white Mosque at Urumqi was prevented by surrounding the area with riot police with submachine guns as armoured  police vehicles blocked roads around the building and a helicopter hovered overhead. US National Security Adviser General James Jones already urged Chinese leaders to act with restraint. Now it is the international belief that most of the terrorist organization is originated from Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan is an alley of China, but no matter what Pakistan authority promise, their cooperation can never be wholehearted when the enemy is a Muslim and being declared Pakistan itself an Islamic country, a country of Muslims only.
