Shrimp Burgers

Living along the coastal gulf region where there is an abundance of fresh shrimp, classic recipes, such as Shrimp Creole or Shrimp and Okra Gumbo, are handed down from generations of authentic Creole and Cajun cooks. Whether prepared to feed their family or to serve in a restaurant’s fine dining environment, Shrimp Burgers may be found on the menu.

1 quart of fresh raw shrimp, peeled and deveined

2 onions, quartered

2 potatoes, quartered

1 bell pepper, quartered

Salt and cracked black pepper

Cajun seasoning

1 cup of seasoned breadcrumbs

Zatarain’s Seasoned Fish Fry Mix

Vegetable Oil

In a food processor, begin to chop the onions, potatoes and bell pepper until finely chopped. Add the salt, freshly cracked black pepper and Cajun seasoning to the vegetables. Into the food processor, add the peeled, raw shrimp and roughly chop until mixed thoroughly with the vegetables.

As you remove the mixture from the food processor and into a large bowl, mix gently with your hands as you add the seasoned breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs will stabilize the patties as you continue with the process. At this point, the Shrimp Burgers may be formed and frozen for later use or prepared now. If burgers are to be frozen, form the patties and place between squares of wax paper and store in the freezer to be used as needed.

To make Shrimp Burgers, coat each formed patty into the Zatarain’s Seasoned Fish Fry Mix. Fry the burgers in a heated skillet with oil.

The Shrimp Burgers may be served between a bun or as an elegant entree with pasta and a cream sauce.
