Artist: R. Kelly

Song: “Half on a Baby”

Album: R.

Label: Jive Records

Director: Hype Williams

This is R. Kelly’s first single and music video from his third solo album, “R.”, and the song is called “Half on a Baby”. R. Kelly mopes around a very dimly lit mansion at night time, spends a lot of time in front of a fireplace, then outside in the rain. The place looks like it’s from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993). This has to be the most boring R. Kelly video ever created, even more boring than “I Can’t Sleep Baby (If I)” and it’s probably the only video you will ever find where R. Kelly is all by his lonesome.

Yes, folks, that is right. No ladies, no homies, no liquor, no jeeps, no cars, none of that bling-bling type of nonsense, nada, just R. Kelly and his moping arse. And this is from director Hype Williams? Strange. Was he having a bad day or something when he directed this? Or perhaps the song wasn’t enough to inspire him to create an interesting enough video. Hey, you can’t blame him, I mean it’s not even like the song was remotely interesting in the first place. Perhaps the whole video is an expression of R. Kelly’s depressed feelings about his failed attempts to recreate another “I Believe I Can Fly”.

If you’re looking for a good old self-pitying time with none other than yourself or if you just can’t stand anti-depressants, then join the pity party and watch “Half on a Baby”.
