Over the last decade the sport of mixed martial arts has grown by leaps and bounds. There have been several men capture the imagination and hearts of fans around the world in that time. With the sport changing and evolving there are still several matchups that have never happened for one reason or another and one of those is Fedor Emelianenko vs Randy Couture.
Fedor Emelianenko has steadily grown into one of the most dominant and yet mysterious fighters in the entire world. In his career he has racked up an impressive 31-1-1 record with his lone loss coming via doctor’s stoppage because of a cut. The Russian comes into each fight with an ice cold demeanor and appears to be a machine at times.
Then you have Randy Couture a man that people look at as the American dream. He has been seen as the underdog for most of his career. All the same he has held the UFC championship at lightheavyweight and heavyweight at several different points beating big names such as Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell and Tim Sylvia along the way.
So what factors would play a big key in this Fedor Emelianenko vs Randy Couture matchup? I’m sure some people are gonna disagree but I think that for all his heart and determination that Randy Couture is no match for Fedor Emelianenko in terms of skill. If you look back through his career Randy Couture had some losses in the UFC to skilled grapplers like Josh Barnett and Ricco Rodriguez. The issue is that the unstoppable Russian can win the fight no matter where it goes and that’s how he has defeated nearly every single opponent placed in front of him throughout his career.
The only way that I can see Randy Couture winning this fight is by decision. The problem with that logic is that I can’t see how he goes 5 rounds with Fedor Emelianenko without either being submitted or knocked out. I’m sure the UFC would love to find out but it seems like we will never see the Russian inside the Octagon.
