Adware or advertising-supported software is any software package which automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertisements to a computer after the software is installed on it or while the application is being used. Some types of adware are also spyware and can be classified as privacy-invasive software.

If your computer has been accessing the internet unprotected, there is over 90% chance your computer is infected with spyware-adware. If you are like most internet users, chances are you are infected with not just one, but many, of these programs. Simply surfing the internet, reading email, downloading music or other files can infect your PC without you knowing it.

Common symtoms:

*Firewall and antivirus programs are frequently turned off automatically.

*Many pop up ads on your computer.

*Certain programs don’t run like they used to.

*Network connection’s activity lights blink a lot, when you are not actively doing anything on the internet.

*New start homepage.

*It takes much longer to start or to resume your computer applications.

*When you try to go to your favorite search engine, you are suddenly rerouted to a completely different search engine.

*A new toolbar on your Internet browser.

*Strange icons and new shortcuts lurking in your taskbar, system tray or on your desktop.

*Computer is suddenly much slower than normal.

*You find new programs in the add/remove programs of your control panel which you don’t ever remember installing.
