For people who like adventure activities, like mountain climbing or explore the jungle, they always realize that they dealing with nature that sometimes unpredictable. For these people they always make proper preparation including physical, mental and equipments and they knew what should they do if there anything happen,  bad weather and lost is a major threat despite the preparation of adequate and they often already have knowledge for it.  They always known how to survive with minimum logistics. I don’t want to talk about these people , because they already know how to survival in wildlife. I write this for they who don’t  have any idea how if they have to separate from the civilization, we just don’t know what will possibility happened when we make a travel with air plane, ship, car or others isn’t it? May be a terrible accident and we were stranded on an island or forest,of course we don’t expect it happen but who knows?

For who don’t know what survival is

Survival is skills and techniques to survive the dangerous conditions of life that occur in nature with practice equipment pickup. If you in the situation that force you to survive without adequate equipments and logistics use STOP

S    : Seatting, stop and rest, get rid of panic, panic will not help at all

T    : Thinking, logical thinking to the situation faced

O   : Observation, do observation to  observe around the environment, find everything could be nature signs  to identify direction or any conditions  should be avoided.

P    : Planning, make plans and think about the consequences that must be when you do something

Main things to do after that is:

1. Make shelter

Shelter is any thing that protects a person from his/her environment, including dangerous cold and heat and allow restful sleep, another human need. Shelter will reduce your panic.  You can use natural shelter; such as a cave or a fallen-down (cracked but not split) thickly-foliaged tree, to an intermediate form of man-made shelter such as a debris shelter, a ditch dug next to a tree log and covered with foliage, or a snow cave, to completely man-made structures such as a tarp or tent.

2. Fire

Try to obtain a fire, useful for cooking food, warm body temperature, drive away wild animals,  and psychologicly improve spirit.  It also used for make a sign ( S.O.S signal)

3. Water

You need to found water resources immediately. Human could survive without food for seven days but without water intakes can survive an average of three days assuming sea-level altitude, room temperature and favorable relative humidity. In colder or warmer temperatures, the need for water is greater. A lack of water causes dehydration, which may result in lethargy, headaches, dizziness, confusion, and eventually death. Even mild dehydration reduces endurance and impairs concentration, which is dangerous in a survival situation where clear thinking is essential. Dark yellow or brown urine is a diagnostic indicator of dehydration. To avoid dehydration, a high priority is typically assigned to locating a supply of drinking water and making provision to render that water as safe as possible. You can get water from spring, river, rain, dew, several kind of plant,  result of condensation of plants or digging the ground.

4. Food

food source can be derived from plants or animals.  Birds and fishes they were good choice as a food source, insects are also other options. Otherwise some species of reptil

If you choose plants, please caution for these  :

  • Plants, light-colored (usually toxic)
  • avoid plants with white sap ( usually toxic) that is known except
  • always try a few first all plants will eat or spread on the skin with little or bites, poisonous plants, usually cause heat or itchiness in the skin / tongue
  • to vary the food we eat to avoid possible accumulation of substances that may be bad for health

While trying to meet the four basic things that we must immediately make a decision to stay ( Static Survival) or move out and try find help (Dynamic Survival).
